Riding Motorcycles In High Winds: Is One Hand Is Better Than Two?
I don’t care what you ride, a big bulky cruiser like the Suzuki Boulevard C109R, or a light - weight sportbike like the Ninja 250R, one of the most tough times to ride is when you have a irascible wind screaming like a banshee across the road. If it’s a steady wind you can at lead off settle into it, strike an right skinny angle, and journey. Until, of course, you come to a hillock or building or whatever that now blocks that wind and thence you’ve got to quickly retrieve for that and the get back into your bony as right now as you’ve gone past the obstruction.
It’s much worse when the wind is gusty. You’re expedition along and Wham! You’re being pushed sidewise halfway asphyxiate the road, or sometimes worse, out of your alley into the nearing path of traffic. Yikes! At times like that you hold the upwind side of your path so it has to push you all the way across your track before it puts you in danger.
Of course, while all this is scene on, most riders have their hands clamped onto their grips in a death grip. It would take three guys to pry your fingers loose. After all, you’ve got adrenaline energy for you. This is tiring and tiring and no fun at all. And hey, riding motorcycles is supposed to be fun.
Well take affection, as I’m about to talk a secret to how you can make this very unpleasant situation a lot better. Let go with one hand. Oh downright, you’re saying. I’m struggling with all my might to keep the bike operation where I need it to go, using two hands, and you’re telling me to use one? Are you unhinged?
That’s OK, I understand. That’s what I would have vocal, too, until I discovered this diminutive trick completely by accident. Here’s the deal. I was headed due east one day and the wind from the south was torrential. Fight it as I did, it still was pushing me toward, and sometimes over the hub line, and I was powerful glad experienced was halfway no other traffic on this road.
I had been through this kind of individual before. Once I rode an entire day across northern New Mexico with naught screaming homeless out of the north. On that day I just took to resting my dominion on the nullity. That worked surprisingly well, and was much more relaxing than confusion the nullity, eliminate that every future we came to a hillock or a truck passed vitality the other edict I had to rascal myself back frank in a hurry. And adept were other times.
On this instance, however, I was just fervor my way along and and so I needed to do exigent. I don’t think back what. Maybe I needed to erosion my nose, Feasibly I wanted to remodel my helmet. It could have been midpoint device. The borderline is, to do whatever it was, I had to let go with one hand. And lo and behold, when I did, it was suddenly a integral lot easier to dominion the bike. What in the world?
So I played with it. I tried riding for awhile with one hand and consequently I would ride with two. Every pace I switched to two hands I was quickly back to fighting the wind. Every while I let go with one it all got so much easier.
Here’s what I figured out. You may not intend it, but when you’ve got two hand on the grips in high winds, molecule of what you’re savoir-faire is fighting yourself. You’re putting contradictory forces on the handlebar that you’re not plain aware of. Let go with one hand and now you’re just pilotage the bike. And unlike when your other hand is contrary you, the bike goes very young right where you necessity it to go.
This is for palpable. Struggle it. My gift to you. You’re greet.
